With its high performance, luxury-focused sedans and coupes, the S-Class has long been at the top of Mercedes-Benz‘s expanding product lineup. As the brand switches to electricity, that is unlikely to alter. Mercedes just introduced a 791-horsepower Mercedes-Benz AMG S-Class Coupe, which sets a new record for being the most potent S-Class ever.
The Mercedes-AMG S 63 E Performance will go on sale sometime in the following year. The Mercedes-Benz AMG S-Class Coupe car is an alternative to the battery-powered EQS 580 4MATIC Sedan and is brimming with technology. Both versions of the S-Class are extremely opulent and both profit from an improvement in Mercedes sedan style.
However, the S 63’s primary engine is a hand-built four-liter AMG bi-turbo V8 that produces 603 horsepower and 664 pound-feet of torque. It is supplemented by a 13.1 kilowatt-hour battery pack, a 188-horsepower electric motor positioned on the rear axle, and a nine-speed automatic gearbox. The 400-volt electrical system of the hybrid has a belt-driven starter-generator that facilitates swift takeoff. The car has a 20.5-mile electric range when using just the e-motor, or until it hits 87 mph.
The S 63, in the vein of other hot S-Class sedans like the highly sought-after 450 SEL 6.9 from 1975, can hit 60 mph in only 3.2 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 180 mph. It also has 1,055 pound-feet of torque to compliment all that horsepower.
On batteries alone, it will undoubtedly run far more slowly. Both gas and electricity can be used to power the all-wheel drive system of the car. Torque vectoring is used by the 4MATIC system to direct power in the appropriate directions. Some people don’t like the one-pedal driving experience, thus the regenerative braking has four settings, which is helpful.
The adaptability of vehicles like the S 63 is among their best qualities. While listening to Bach on the Dolby Atmos 360-degree entertainment system, you can certainly rip up the road like a modern-day Carroll Shelby, but you can also cruise along in luxurious comfort as the air suspension and active adaptive shock absorbers smooth out the bumps.
There are seven driving settings: Electric, Slippery, Battery Hold, Comfort, Sport, Sport+ and Individual. When Comfort is selected, the car begins in electric mode and stays there while being driven in cities. The steering and air suspension are adjusted to their softest positions, and the gearbox provides early upshifts for comfort. Even the engine mounts are “active” to help with the transition from performance to comfort settings.
Sport, on the other hand, tightens the suspension and steering while combining the combustion and electric engines for maximum launch power. With even greater boost and at-the-limit settings, Sport+ turns everything up to eleven.
