Music is one of the things that brings immaculate peace to the lives of many individuals. It is an enchanting arena that offers solace and comfort to the hearts of multiple people. You are able to forget the sorrows and miseries of life while entering into the melodious world of music. Once you get associated with the musical realm, you can easily resolve the internal struggle and have some serenity in your life.
Singers are known for creating a serene world by creating melodies after weaving notes together. One such singer is Nadia Kazmi, who was born in Calgary, Canada to Pakistani/Indian parents. Initially, her family settled in Toronto, Ontario where Zureen Kazmi, her sister, was born but her family moved to Calgary in the 1970s. She completed Honors in philosophy from the University of Calgary followed by a law degree from Peter A. Allard School of Law (University of British Columbia).
Kazmi is a Brooklyn-based indie artist who hails from Calgary. She stepped into the music industry almost a decade ago and has been releasing music for over a decade as a songwriter/singer. She has worked with different music Indie labels including “Unable Music Group” and “Cosmic Trigger Records” during her extensive musical journey. Her music has been highly influenced by artists of the late 1970s and 1980s and consists of a theatrical pop-rock flair.
In 2008, Kazmi released her first album, Arrival along with Josh Valleau and Alex Elena. The album presented a delightful fusion of mixed poetry in vintage style with a touch of modernity. ‘Mothers’ is regarded as one of the best tracks of this album, which moved slowly akin to a blues number. Another song that captivated audiences with its heavy beats and keyboard notes is My True Love.
She released her second album, Strange Song, in 2010. The album was made of Kazmi’s favorite Leonard Cohen songs that were recorded and produced in New York City with Uri Djama at Madpan Studios, Chelsea. The guitarist of the album was John Hogg (UK). She was able to reimagine and represent Cohen’s song with alt-rock interpretation. Due to her remarkable technique two songs from this album, I’m Your Man and Paper-thin Hotel, were selected in the star-studded compilation album of Cohen’s covers, We Love You Mr. Cohen which included songs by Nick Cave, Rufus Wainwright, and others.
Kazmi released an EP, Lamb, with Djamal at Madpan Studios in 2012. It consisted of songs such as Haunting of My Heart which was released with an accompanying video. She released LP Gold into Dust in 2017 in collaboration with Apffel at Lady Alligator Studios in Greenpoint, Brooklyn. The album was featured in Impose Magazine and Atwood Magazine and received great reviews. The album’s title was inspired by the dreamy tunes of the 1970s that enable people to view how illusions are crushed in reality. In 2018, she toured the West Coast of North America as a solo performer in order to support her album and for performing in shows in multiple cities.
Kazmi was working on different musical projects in 2019 and 2020, which got stalled due to the pandemic. However, she released two singles in late 2022. Nadia took a break from music after the death of her father. She returned with full spirits in July 2023 which resulted in the release of his single Rationing followed by a European tour. Due to her remarkable achievements in music, she has been featured in more than 30 publications. She has toured the United States, Canada, and Europe as a performer and musician and enchanted audiences with the power of music.
