If you mean on start-up that is normal. If it is pegging to the right and staying there in a consistent spot until you shut off the vehicle and then it goes back to normal, it appears to be an idiosyncrasy with Pontiac.
I just watch where it settles each time I start it and consider it “normal” for that trip. If the temp gauge moves up from this “normal” I know I have an issue. I have been told the entire dash has to be replaced to fix the problem.
