WHAT IS SELF-CONFIDENCE AND HOW COACHING HELPS TO STIMULATE

Whether at work or in your personal life, developing self-confidence is essential. This conviction, present in all successful people, is an important differentiator and must be continually nurtured and developed.

But in practice, do you know what self-confidence is? We can define it as positive self-perception, self-acceptance and self-recognition of individual abilities and capacities. However, for many reasons, many people fail to develop self-confidence and therefore suffer from low self-esteem.

As we are a London confidence coaching centre, in this article, you will understand how coaching can benefit people’s self-confidence and what are its fundamental pillars. To learn more about the topic, just continue reading below!

HOW DOES COACHING ENHANCE SELF-CONFIDENCE?

To recognize, one must know. Many people are simply unaware of their own potential and live in the shadow of negative experiences, which directly interferes with the development of self-confidence.

In this context, the coaching process supports the individual in his path of self-discovery, raising powerful questions that make him reflect deeply. With this, the person/professional begins to see and recognize their strengths, qualities and differentials, as well as the aspects that can and should be developed.

By experiencing this intense self-knowledge, the client is able to identify the experiences and beliefs that sabotage their confidence, actively working to eliminate their negative influences. Remember that falling and hurting your knees certainly causes pain, but it leaves a scar that represents your experience and your ability to get up and overcome the pain.

In the coaching process, it’s like this: even having gone through very traumatic and negative events, the client is invited to reframe them, looking for some positive aspect in these situations and making it a stimulus to move forward.

WHAT ARE THE PILLARS OF SELF-CONFIDENCE?

Check out, in sequence, the fundamental elements for a person to develop their self-confidence.

SELF-KNOWLEDGE To improve my health and independence, I must first learn more about myself.”. These words perfectly define the achievement of self-confidence provided by the coaching process. To restore self-confidence, coaching invites us to answer important questions, such as: Who am I? What makes me wake up everyday? How would I like to be seen and recognized? What are my differentials? What are my strengths? What are my achievements? How I feel? How would I like to be and be now?

With the support of these and other powerful questions, the individual expands his vision and begins to see his strengths, victories, differentials, personal strengths and individual skills. From this process, he recognizes himself as someone who deserves to be recognized, heard, loved and capable of achieving success.

  • SELF-ESTEEM

Self-esteem is the ability of an individual to like himself. Naturally, it is a consequence of the previous item, self-knowledge, after all, it is only possible to like what we know, right?

When a person knows himself, he realizes the characteristics he admires, as well as those he wishes were different. This is absolutely normal, as everyone has positive points and development points. However, this is not a reason for a person to stop loving himself. She must improve what she wants in herself, but she must also recognize her own worth.

  • PREPARATION

One of the fundamental keys to self-confidence is preparation. The more a person prepares for situations, the more his confidence in his own abilities increases. That way, if you need to conduct a business meeting tomorrow, for example, an intense and thorough study will certainly ease fears and tensions.

Preparation, however, should not be confused with perfectionism. If a person decides to prepare until they feel fully confident (100%), they will never feel prepared enough, falling into a cycle of procrastination. So be prepared, but remember to act. Don’t wait for the “perfect moment” because it just doesn’t exist, OK?

  • COURAGE

Self-confidence can also involve a little courage. This concept is often understood as the “absence of fear”, which is not true. A brave person is afraid, yes, but what reveals their courage is their ability to act in spite of that fear.

Having courage is facing our fears and worries, not simply not feeling them. Fear is important and leads us to preparation, which we mentioned in the previous item. However, in excess, it can paralyze us and prevent us from taking action. That’s where courage comes into play. When the motivation to conquer overcomes the fear of defeat, we build the necessary courage to finally face whatever it takes.

  • OPTIMISM

Finally, it never hurts to emphasize that optimism can do us a lot of good. It should not be understood as a blind and naive belief that everything will be perfect. However, it can be understood as the tranquility to understand that you are doing everything in your power to reach your goals.

It also consists of being aware that, even if problems arise, you can rely on your skills and knowledge to overcome adversity. It’s not easy to be optimistic, but by exercising this kind of thinking, it can become simpler and more recurrent.

It’s a fact: self-confidence depends on how we see ourselves. With a renewed self-perception, it is possible to re-establish a healthy relationship with yourself and have a more positive attitude towards yourself and life. May the above tips be useful on your path, so that self-confidence never fails you!
