Helpful review: “Just spent a weekend winter camping in this tent. I understand this is an ice shanty/shelter but thought it would be great as a winter tent as well. I was right! Now, it is blacked out on the inside of the tent but there are 6 windows with velcro covers you can take off leaving plastic see-through windows! They let in plenty of daytime light so you don’t need lights on during the day.
The one thing you need to know is there is no floor (because it’s made for ice fishing) so what I did is used foam yoga mats for rugs which worked great! You can also use children’s foam floor tiles to create a floor. However, be aware your flooring might freeze to the ground if you don’t have ample heat to keep them from feezing.
The one downfall with this tent is there’s no seam-sealing (I’m not sure any ice shanty has such a thing) and there’s TONS AND TONS of seams you can see ALL of the light through. So if you do encounter rain, it’s going to come in. You can brush off snow but rain will be a problem. My fix for this is to hang a tarp over it if you’re expecting rain. LOVED my weekend in this tent! I spoiled myself: I had a TV with antenna, a heater and put a roast together in a crockpot for my main meal Saturday. It was spectacular!” – Sheila Panowicz
