There’s a thing about retro motorcycles. The sense of nostalgia, the pure and unadulterated engineering sans electronics and the simplicity in their design are hard to find in modern-day motorcycles. As a collector of retro motorcycles from the previous decades, I feel that very few motorcycles from the current generation have the overall appeal to match the old-era motorcycles in my collection. However, when Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles unveiled the all-new Jawa 350, it instantly made me awestruck, encouraging me to add it to my existing collection. And despite it being a modern-era motorcycle, here are a couple of reasons which made the new Jawa 350 the next entrant in my collection:
The Design Inspiration From Jawa Models From Yesteryears
I am a huge admirer of the old-school Jawa 250 two-stroke motorcycle, one of the models that gave birth to a whole new breed of retro motorcycle admirers in India. As far as my perceptions and opinions are concerned, I find the new Jawa 350 in line with the old Jawa two-stroke motorcycles, which is pretty evident by the way it looks.
The new Jawa 350 retains the sheer elegance and minimalism of the old Jawa models, making it such an eye-pleasing motorcycle. All of its round-themed panels, shiny chrome finish for the exhaust pipes and engine and all-analogue instrument console make the new Jawa 350 a befitting throwback to the old Jawa 250. I realized this the moment I parked the new Jawa 350 beside my old Jawa 250, and the new Jawa 350 immediately appeared as a modern incarnation of the old Jawa to my eyes.
Subtle Colours Matching The Retro Essence Of Jawa 350
I have the old Jawa 250 motorcycle in an elegant shade of maroon, and I am happy to realize that Jawa Yezdi Motorcycles is offering the new Jawa 350 in the same shade of maroon, earning my approval as well. I went for the same shade of maroon similar to that of my old Jawa 250, but the other two shades on offer for the Jawa 350 – Mystique Orange and Black – also match the old-school vibe of the motorcycle.
In all three colour options, the new Jawa 350 looks elegant and subtle, with the colours perfectly complementing the chrome touches for the headlamp, engine, sides of the fuel tank and exhaust pipes. Speaking of the exhaust pipes, the new Jawa 350 also gets a dual exhaust setup, which is a rarity among modern-day motorcycles with single-cylinder engines. It follows the footsteps of the old Jawa motorcycles that also came with dual exhaust setups.
Is The New Jawa 350 A Retro Motorcycle Collector’s Delight?
Unlike the old-generation Jawa models, the new Jawa 350 comes with modern engineering attributes like liquid-cooling and four-stroke operation for its engine. However, the new Jawa 350 seamlessly follows the design ethos of the older models, with its retro design language being a modern inspiration of the formers. And it is this feat of the new Jawa 350, that doesn’t make it an out-of-place model amidst the retro motorcycles from the bygone era.
