Breadnbeyond is an award-winning explainer video company specializing in producing animated explainer videos. We create engaging animated explainer videos that help you introduce your brand, product, or service to the world – all from scratch, with no template.
Here are the interviews with Andre, CEO of Breadnbeyond.
So, who are you and what’s your business?
Andre Oentoro, Breadnbeyond
What is your backstory and what inspired you to come up with / pursue this idea?
I started a one-man graphic design business back in 2008. I helped my friends create company logos, banners, posters, and anything linked to building brand identity. With the power of word-of-mouth referrals, my one-man graphic design business went pretty well and grew quite fast. I hired my first employee after 5 months of establishing it.
One day a client asked if we could help to create a short animated video for their recruitment campaign. We took the challenge. Turns out the client was pretty satisfied with the end results, and he brought more projects.
After enough videos for the portfolio, I added the explainer video to our services. And it has gained a lot of traction since then. In 2009, I finally pivoted into a full-service explainer video company and let go of the other graphic design projects that were coming to our plate.
Take us through the process of designing, prototyping, and manufacturing your first product – what was that like?
As a full-service explainer video company, Breadnbeyond takes care of everything in the production. Here’s the process of crafting an explainer video:
- Gathering ideas using questionnaires for clients
- Scriptwriting
- Mock-ups
- Storyboarding
- Voice-over recording
- Animation phase
My team and I make sure we include the client’s feedback for all of the stages.
Describe launching the company… Where did you start?
The launching process of this full-service explainer video production– and the transition from the graphic design business was pretty subtle. Explainer videos have been gaining popularity back then. It was a go-to format for many companies for their campaigns– it still is.
Since we’re an agency, we essentially have been profitable since day one. And invested in software subscriptions and computers and any hardware purchases.
I always aim for the global market and reach international clients. So, our website is in the forefront of our efforts in building an online presence. We also focus on establishing solid teams, from the creative team to the marketing team, from the very beginning.
What has worked to attract & retain customers so far?
We focus on organic inbound marketing strategies, including content marketing, social media campaigns, and link-building campaigns, to strengthen our online presence and make it much easier for potential clients to find our services.
To make our clients stick around and retain them, we offer them special discounts or freebies (intro or outro clips for videos, etc). We always try to keep in touch with them through email campaigns. We believe that a meaningful relationship can also help us establish ourselves in the market in the long run.
What books, podcasts, or people have been the most influential on your journey?
I’ve been listening to Andrew Warmer’s podcast, Mixergy for the past 5-6 years, I believe. Laso, I gained a lot of valuable knowledge from Noah Kagan’s podcast.
For books, I often go for entrepreneurship and startup stories. The Steve Jobs biography by Walter Isaacson is one of the most inspiring books I’ve read. The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferris has a lot of bits that I can learn from.
How are things going today and what does the future look like?
Now that the business has been growing, I am constantly hiring talents and increasing the number of employees. I am also in the middle of planning a new, bigger office.
For today and even years to come, the goal has always been to focus on the quality of our explainer videos by investing in training for our teams. We also make sure that we constantly enhance the website performance and online presence to generate more qualified leads and reflect our global client’s needs.
Any advice for others who are just starting out?
It’s crucial to establish a business from the things that you really enjoy doing. I believe that it’s the key to business longevity as you are always willing to learn and stay motivated in your career. In other words, when you enjoy what you do, it becomes so much easier to grow and develop a solid staying power in this ever-changing market landscape.
